Simon comes to Vallant Hooker & Partners after two years in a mixed criminal and civil litigation practice in Hamilton, including as lead provider on his own legal aid criminal matters and in the specialist coronial jurisdiction. He works in the family and civil litigation space. His passion in law is being a firm advocate, achieving just outcomes, and leading clients through what, from the outside, can be a confusing process. Prior to legal practice, he worked at the Ministry of Justice in the Coroners Court, including on the Masjidain (Mosques) Inquest.

He graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a conjoint Law and Arts (Honours) degree, the latter triple-majoring in Japanese, International Relations, and Media Studies. As part of his Honours, he undertook Masters coursework and original research in Media Studies, namely on the political economy of news reporting. Simon has a focus on achieving pragmatic outcomes, bringing his wide cultural and work experience in connecting with clients from a range of backgrounds.

Simon has lived in China and Japan. He speaks conversational Japanese, and is learning Te Reo Māori. He has creative interests from writing to music composition and performance, filmmaking to analogue photography. He is 90,000 words into his first novel.
